The network that connects everything on board the vehicle.
NSS industrial Ethernet switches for vehicles and rail rolling stock — managed or unmanaged, with or without PoE, with M12 connectors, built for the most demanding onboard environment.
The Ethernet backbone of every vehicle.
Driver consoles, destination indicators, INSAT, cameras and GNSS — more and more onboard equipment communicates over a local network, often following the ITxPT architecture. That network passes, at some point, through a switch: the one element every other piece of equipment shares. If it fails, it isn't one system that goes down — it's the communication between all of them. That's why it has to withstand vibration, shock, voltage fluctuations and extreme temperatures, without dropping a single packet.
The NMSW12X2, built for rolling stock.
Managed. With PoE. Connected via M12.
The NMSW12X2 is NSS's managed, PoE-enabled Ethernet switch, developed for rail, vehicle and passenger information system applications. A high-strength metal housing, redundant power supply and M12 connections with mechanical locking replace traditional RJ45 connectors, eliminating vibration-induced disconnections. The range also includes the NUSW10X2, unmanaged and without PoE, for simpler networks — both real models are shown below.
12 Gigabit M12 ports
8-pin M12 X-code connectors with mechanical locking, 10/100/1000 BaseT(X) ports with automatic speed and MDI/MDI-X detection.
Integrated PoE
Powers up to 100W of connected devices, supporting IEEE 802.3af (15.4W) and IEEE 802.3at (30W) per port.
Redundant power supply
Two 24VDC (9–36VDC) power inputs, with overcurrent and reverse-polarity protection.
Rail-grade ruggedness
IP40 metal housing, operation between -40°C and +75°C, Estimated MTBF of 512,352 hours.
Two real switches, for two different network needs.
NMSW12X2 and NUSW10X2 — NSS's Ethernet switches for onboard installation. The NMSW12X2 is managed, with integrated PoE up to 100W and 12 Gigabit M12 ports, for networks with more equipment to power and manage. The NUSW10X2 is unmanaged and without PoE, with 10 Gigabit M12 ports, for simpler networks that only need connectivity.
